In 1963 the Beatles recorded the song, Money, which includes the words:
The best things in life are free / But you can keep them for the birds and bees
Now give me money / That's what I want
In 1964 the Beatles recorded the song, Can’t Buy Me Love, which includes the words:
I'll give you all I got to give / if you say you'll love me too
I may not have a lot to give / but what I got I'll give to you
I don't care too much for money / money can't buy me love
In 2012 Michael Sandel (obviously more in tune with the 1964 Beatles) wrote a book titled,
What Money Can’t Buy. Money can’t buy:
- genuine friendship
- joy
- inner peace
- self esteem
- meaning in life
In 1982 Dire Straits recorded the song, Love Over Gold, which includes the words:
It takes lover over gold and mind over matter
to do what you do that you must
When the things that you hold can fall and be shattered
or run through your fingers like dust
