Ridiculous. Absurd. Foolish. Nonsensical. Preposterous. Stupid. All six of the foregoing are synonyms of ludicrous. To embrace thinking – and the consequences of acting on such – that can justifiably be characterized by these adjectives is, well, ridiculous, absurd . . .
Senseless is also a kissing-cousin term for ludicrous. Several examples of thinking and acting that don’t make sense:
Aggrandizement with no concern for anyone else, on personal or national levels and everywhere in between. Me first, or me only. History reveals two realities: it doesn’t bring a foundational joy or peace, and it doesn’t last. It is also an observable fact that what secures benefits for the whole community secures and benefits all those within it, Given this, to ground one’s actions on exclusive self-concern is senseless.
Producing nuclear weapons and having them ready to launch. It’s a matter of scientific fact that if the nations with these weapons were to unleash them in a global war, life on the planet, at least human life, would be extinguished. The term used is MAD – Mutually Assured Destruction. To posit that anyone would come out a winner of such on onslaught is senseless.
Knowingly and willingly poisoning oneself and/or the planet. It is clearly evident that polluting oneself with harmful drugs or foodstuffs often leads to abject misery and a premature death. Regular scientific reports reveal the effects of flooding the planet with lethal pollutants. Momentary satisfaction notwithstanding, to see the destructive path ahead and keep on keeping on is senseless.
We live as we think. And it’s crystal clear that an unhealthy proportion of the populace have quite bad luck with their thinking. If current experience or projected outcomes of a way of thinking is destructive, it behooves one to explore new mindsets, new viewpoints that lead to more positive outcomes . . . for oneself, and for everyone.
